Stainless steel is a family of iron-based alloys containing at least 10.5% chromium, which forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer on the surface—preventing rust and corrosion even in harsh environments. Many grades also include nickel, molybdenum or nitrogen to enhance toughness, formability and resistance to acids or chlorides.
